Spooktober

Things are turning spooky on filmingo! Ghostly figures are often associated with the horror genre – but film history shows us that they also symbolize a great deal in other genres. They create suspense by blurring the line between life and death, the normal and paranormal («Geister - Riget»), represent the absent or departed («Atlantic») and allow both protagonists and audience to deal with their respective losses («Personal Shopper») and ask deeper existential questions («Ugetsu monogatari»). They can act as metaphors for society's tormented souls suffering from injustice, or past injustices and an unresolved past («The Hunters»). In addition, ghosts and supernatural figures are deeply rooted in various cultures («Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall his Past Lives», «Mami Wata»). Enjoy some ghostly encounters this Spooktober. Boo!
