Michelle is enjoying a peaceful retirement in a charming Burgundy village, roaming the forest with her long-time friend looking for mushrooms and driving her to the prison where her son is being held. Her relationship with her own daughter, Valérie, is strained, but she loves her grandson all the more. When the little boy is supposed to spend the school break with her, a scandal ensues. Michelle, upset by Valérie's constant reproaches, serves her mushrooms - poisonous ones. Valérie recovers quickly, but Michelle is no longer allowed to see her grandson. Lonely and full of guilt, she falls into a depression. Until her friend's son is released from prison...

This time, French director François Ozon takes his audience into the seemingly tranquil life of the countryside, creating a cinematic universe rich in detail, so that one can literally smell the falling autumn leaves and grandmother's mushroom stew. But subliminally and with a diabolical pleasure, Ozon raises doubts: Is it all a coincidence or has it been planned for a long time? "Quand vient l'automne" skillfully plays with the allure of ambiguity. Hélène Vincent, Josiane Balasko, Ludivine Sagnier and Pierre Lottin shine in the leading roles.
