Samurai Taketoki, returning from battle, gets lost in the Spider's Web Forest with his comrade-in-arms Miki. They encounter a spirit who predicts their future: Taketoki would soon take power in the kingdom and Miki's son would later become his heir to the throne. Confused by the unbelievable prophecy, the two Samurais return home, where Taketoki's wife Asaji spurs her husband on to realize the predicted fate - by all means necessary.
For "Kumonosu-jō - Throne of Blood", Akira Kurosawa adapted Shakespeare's drama "Macbeth" and staged it faithfully yet independently in Japan. Shakespeare would have been delighted if he had been able to see the production, as it shows, among other things, its universality and timelessness. Kurosawa focuses on ambition and the pursuit of power, where the road to success is often paved with sacrifices. Whether ghost, intrigue or battle: Kurosawa's adaption of Shakespeare is breathtaking.
